We lost Jordan Karst to cancer on January 26th. Jordan made a huge contribution to the Calgary shooting community by bringing 3-Gun to CDTSA, as well as serving as a board member of the club.
Jordan had a passion for introducing new shooters to events such as Steel Challenge and 3-Gun. He was always the first person to approach someone observing an event to make sure they felt welcome, frequently inviting them to try it out using his own guns. He would assist new shooters with their technique and be the first to congratulate them if they managed to best his impressive times. I know that I have personally benefited immensely from his willingness to help improve a green-as-grass new participant. This dedication to getting club members interested in competitive shooting has directly resulted in more members being involved in club events and even serving on the board.
On top of being an excellent shooter, he was also an excellent speaker and was interviewed when the CCFR shot part of episode 10 of Canada Downrange Season 1 at one of our 3-Gun matches.
You can watch the CDTSA part of episode, including Jordan's interview, on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/RKaqsryDjtM?t=844
When not at the range, Jordan was a dedicated father and husband. He often commented on how lucky he was to be married to his best friend Anita, and how much he adored being a father to his daughter Kenzie. He made sure his daughter's weekends were filled with hikes, trips to the zoo, camping, gymnastics, and all kinds of other activities. If he couldn't be home when his daughter would be going to bed, he made sure to call home just to say goodnight.
2020 was a tough year for Jordan and his family. His diagnosis came shortly after he lost his job due to the downturn in Alberta's economy during the first wave of COVID. A GoFundMe has been set up to help support his wife and young daughter. I know that times are tough for a lot of people right now, but if you could find a few extra dollars to help out, those of us that knew Jordan would really appreciate it.
